Thank you for participating in the first round of public meetings.  We had just over 90 people attend one of the in-person meetings in the Panhandle, Greater Lancaster, and Souther Lancaster Areas.  We also had over 250 online participants.  The information will be presented to the Steering Committee on August 9 and published on the site the next day.  The meeting dates for the next round of meetings, the key topic forums in September and October, will be posted soon.

About Lancaster 2040

In recent years, Lancaster County has consistently experienced significant growth in jobs, housing, and population making it one of the fastest growing counties in the region and the United States. The Lancaster 2040 Comprehensive Plan process will provide a long-range strategic vision and direction to guide how the county grows and develops over the next 10 to 20 years.

Specifically, the Lancaster 2040 planning process will focus on developing recommendations for the distinct geographic regions of the county: the Panhandle, Greater Lancaster, Southern Lancaster, and the county as a whole (see the Planning Areas map). Each area will consider the ten specific planning elements required by the State of South Carolina’s Comprehensive Planning Enabling Act: population, economic development, natural resources, cultural resources, community facilities, housing, land use, transportation, priority investments, and resiliency.

During the planning process, emphasis will be placed on the County’s transportation system, its rural and agricultural lands, natural resources, stormwater management, recreation, open space, sustainability, economic development, and community beautification.

Active participation from Lancaster County citizens and business owners will be key to ensuring a successful planning process.  As the Lancaster 2040 Comprehensive Plan is developed, opportunities will be provided through a community survey, public input meetings, and this website. Thank you for your participation in the process to plan for Lancaster's future together!
